Simplify site generation

The current site generation is complex and brittle. While having custom site generation is cool, it should be as minimal and permissive as possible to allow for a variety of page structures, easy feature development, and as little documentation as can be got away with.
It should be possible to:
- Author basic pages in Markdown
- Author more complex pages in HTML
- Apply a unified site theme
- Inject repetitive content as templates
